Suzuki Enters the Electric Arena: e-Access Launched at Rs. 1.88 Lakh

Suzuki has officially marked its entry into the Indian electric two-wheeler market with the launch of the Suzuki e-Access. Based on the familiar silhouette of India’s favorite family scooter, the Access 125, this electric avatar brings Japanese engineering and high-end battery tech to the EV segment

Here’s a breakdown of what the e-Access offers:

1. Advanced LFP Battery Technology

The e-Access is one of the few scooters in India to feature a 3kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.

  • Longevity: LFP batteries are known for a significantly longer service life compared to standard NMC batteries.
  • Range: It offers a claimed IDC range of 95km.
  • Durability: Suzuki has put the battery through rigorous global validation, including water submersion, thermal stress, and drop tests.

2. Performance & Modes

The scooter is powered by a swingarm-mounted motor with a peak output of 4.1kW and 15Nm of torque.

  • Riding Modes: It features three modes—Eco, Ride A, and Ride B—allowing riders to balance range and performance.
  • Urban Features: The e-Access includes regenerative braking and a reverse assist function for easier parking in tight spots.
  • Power Consistency: Suzuki claims the throttle response remains consistent even when the battery is low, addressing a major “limp home” concern for EV users.

3. Maintenance-Free Drivetrain

The scooter uses a belt final drive that Suzuki says is virtually maintenance-free. It is rated for a massive 70,000km or seven years of use, significantly reducing the long-term cost of ownership.

4. Pricing and Market Position

Priced at Rs. 1.88 Lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi), the e-Access is positioned at the premium end of the market.

  • The Competition: It slots in between the Simple One Gen 2 (Rs. 1.70 lakh) and the Ather 450 Apex (Rs. 1.90 lakh).
  • Premium Premium: It is significantly more expensive than mass-market rivals like the Bajaj Chetak (Rs. 1.23 lakh) or the TVS iQube ST (Rs. 1.58 lakh).

5. Introductory Perks & Availability

To sweeten the deal, Suzuki is offering:

  • Extended Warranty: 7 years or 80,000km at no extra cost.
  • Buy-back Assurance: A guaranteed 60% buy-back value after 3 years.
  • Reach: Retail will happen through 1,200+ dealerships, and the scooter will eventually be available on Flipkart.

While the price tag is steep, Suzuki is betting on its legendary reliability, the durable LFP battery, and a robust service network to win over urban commuters.
