2026 Yamaha Trichy 300 gets airbag system
The 2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 has officially made history as the world's first production scooter to feature an integrated airbag system. Unveiled in mid-March 2026, this three-wheeled maxi-scooter is setting a new benchmark for urban safety.
1. The World-First Airbag System
Developed in collaboration with automotive safety giant Autoliv, the airbag is the star of the show.
How it Works: The airbag module is tucked neatly inside the front apron, just below the handlebars. Advanced G-force sensors detect a sudden frontal impact and deploy the bag instantly.
The Goal: Unlike car airbags that work with seatbelts, this system is designed to absorb the rider’s kinetic energy and prevent them from being thrown over the handlebars during a head-on collision.
Practicality: Yamaha has managed to integrate this without sacrificing the massive 45-litre under-seat storage (which still fits two full-face helmets).
2. Performance & Mechanics
- Engine: It retains the reliable 292cc liquid-cooled Blue Core engine, producing 28 PS and 28.9 Nm of torque.
- Eco-Friendly: A new catalytic converter makes it compliant with the latest Euro 5+ emission standards.
- Braking: It features a new Brake Control (BC) system that uses data from a 6-axis IMU to manage braking force and prevent wheel lock, alongside Yamaha’s Unified Braking System (UBS).
3. Tech & Design Upgrades
- New Dashboard: The cockpit now features a 4.2-inch full-color TFT display paired with a secondary 2.8-inch LCD dash.
- Navigation: Full-map Garmin navigation is now integrated directly into the dashboard.
- Sharper Looks: The 2026 model gets a sportier restyling with triple LED position lamps at the front and new split-line LED tail lamps.
- Signature Stability: It continues to use Yamaha’s Leaning Multi-Wheel (LMW) technology and the Standing Assist System, which keeps the scooter upright at traffic signals.

Will it come to India?
While the Tricity 300 is set to hit European showrooms in Q2 2026, Yamaha currently has no official plans to launch it in the Indian market.
Why we’re watching it: Even though the Tricity 300 itself might not land in our hubs soon, the Autoliv x Yamaha partnership is a sign that safety tech is finally trickling down to more accessible vehicles. In a market like India, where two-wheeler safety is a growing priority, seeing airbag technology in a scooter is a massive win for rider confidence.
